Sculptured life

Emotion is the sculptor's aim in representing the body. This project brings together photographs evoking moments in life: youth, sensuality, love and pain.

The selection of works illustrates how academicism, still dominant at the end of the 19th century, opened the door to new styles: the expressive modelling of Auguste Rodin and the refined style of Aristide Maillol, precursors of modern sculpture.

The work on hands is an investigation into the words of Henri Focillon (french art historian): "faces without eyes or voice, but which see and speak".
